Fire lined at 7:11 a.m., said
Brian Humphrey of the Los Angeles Fire Department.
Fire crews cut through the roof of the building to allow smoke to escape
and extinguished the flames in about 40 minutes, Humphrey said.
The badly injured woman appeared to have been living in an illegally
converted unit, LAFD Deputy Chief Joe Castro said.
The cause of the fire was under investigation. A damage estimate was not
immediately available.
