LOS ANGELES (CNS) – Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today he will put his
U.S. Navy Reserve career on hold when his eight-year commitment with the Navy
concludes at the end of this year.
Garcetti, a lieutenant in the U.S. Navy Reserve, is in the midst of
balancing a full-time job as mayor and fulfilling his required annual two-week
training at a facility in Bell.
Garcetti said he will transfer to the Navy’s Inactive Ready Reserve,
whose members “have no drill obligation, but retain their rank in the Navy and
are able to resume drilling in the future.”
“It has been a privilege to serve with the reserve component of the
United States Navy since 2005, and I am proud that the voters of Los Angeles
supported me in that service when electing me as mayor,” Garcetti said. “I
have been honored to serve alongside some of our nation’s finest men and women
and am grateful for the skills and experience I have gained, which have
strengthened my work as an elected official.”
