City plans VE Day events

Independent Staff Report

WEST HOLLYWOOD — The city will mark the 70th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day May 9 with a ceremony honoring Russian-speaking community members who are veterans of the Soviet military and a concert.

The ceremony will take place at 11 a.m. at Plummer Park’s Fiesta Hall, 7377 Santa Monica Blvd.

The concert at 6 p.m., also in Fiesta Hall, will feature Berlin’s House performing a literary musical competition in honor of Victory in Europe Day.

Victory in Europe Day commemorates the day in 1945 that Germany surrendered, ending the European Theater of World War II. It was another three months before Japan surrendered.

Both events are free.
