At Monday night’s CFDA Fashion Awards red carpet in New York City, some of Hollywood’s most well-known fashion darlings stunned in their finest, most on-trend designer looks, from the Olsen twins to Mr. and Mrs. Kardashian West.
But “Girls” actress Jemima Kirke — who wore a fiery, billowing Rosie Assoulin two-piece ensemble offset by a large white flower in her hair — decided to show off a trend at Alice Tully Hall that has nothing to do with clothes.
Unlike many, if not all, of the other women attending the CFDA Fashion Awards, Kirke has armpit hair — and she’s not afraid to show it off. While her pits aren’t very visible in red carpet photos from the event, there is one picture of Kirke flashing her armpit for the camera in the official CFDA Snapchat story.
It’s definitely the most hair-raising trend we’ve seen so far this summer, but Kirke is definitely embodying the same free-spirited, bohemian chic vibe of her character on HBO’s hit “Girls.” And there’s absolutely no shame in embracing your natural womanly beauty! When 61% of women say they switch up their hair styles because they “just wanted a change,” who’s to say that getting creative with your armpit hair is any different?
Kirke certainly isn’t the first famous lady to embrace armpit hair, either; in recent months, pop singer Miley Cyrus has also been photographed with her armpit hair dyed pink, E! reported.
It remains to be seen whether Cyrus and Kirke’s armpit accessorizing will catch on in the fashion world, but we can only imagine what “Mean Girls” queen bee Regina George would have to say about this:
“Stop trying to make armpit hair happen, Jemima. It’s not going to happen.”
