D’Amico succeeds Abbe Land as mayor.

D’Amico was elected to the City Council in March 2011 and this is his first stint as mayor.

He assumes the largely ceremonial role as mayor as the city prepares to celebrate its 30th anniversary in November.

“Building on our successes of the past 30 years, we can all celebrate and challenge ourselves every day to invent WeHo as a place that we all want to live in together,” D-Amico added.

A resident of West Hollywood for more than 20 years, D’Amico served on the Planning Commission and the Design Review Board before being elected to the council.

He holds two master’s degrees, one in architecture and urban planning and the other in aesthetics and politics.

He is the principal project manager for the UCLA Orthopedic Replacement Hospital, where his responsibilities include managing the design and engineering professionals, as well as serving as the liaison to the hospital management team for new construction.

D’Amico met his husband, Keith Rand, in the city in 1992. They registered as domestic partners at West Hollywood City Hall and were married in August 2008.

Installed as mayor pro tem Monday night was John Heilman.

One of the original City Council members, Heilman played a major role in the incorporation of the city in 1984 and was chosen the city’s second mayor in 1985. He has since served as mayor six other times.

A native of Cleveland, he is a graduate of the USC School of Law, and teaches law at both USC and the Southwestern Law School.
