On Thursday, December 5, fast food workers across the country will go on strike, demanding that their employers – McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, KFC, Pizza Hut, Domino’s, Papa John’s, and Subway – stop paying their employees poverty wages and starting paying a living wage of at least $15/hour.

The renewed focus on wages comes after a report released in October revealed that more than 52 percent of fast food workers rely on public assistance programs to put food on the table or see a doctor.  In 2013, the crucial stop-gap benefits provided to underpaid workers costs taxpayers an more than $7 billion, while McDonald’s reported a profit of $5.5 billion.
