INGLEWOOD (CNS) – MTV officials confirmed today that the Video Music
Awards ceremony will return to Southern California this summer, landing at the
Forum in Inglewood.
The ceremony will mark the first major awards show to be held at the
recently renovated auditorium.
“With its incomparable legacy as a world-class music venue, the Forum
is one of Southern California’s most iconic entertainment landmarks,” MTV
President Stephen Friedman said. “The Forum has hosted some of the most
legendary musical artists and performances ever seen and we can’t wait to add
the 2014 Video Music Awards to this list and create the type of memorable
moments that music fans will talk about for years to come.”
The show will be held Aug. 24.
The Madison Square Garden Co. acquired the historic venue in June 2012
for $23.5 million, and quickly began a $100 million renovation project that was
completed in January.
MSG officials said the renovated venue is the largest indoor performance
space in the country, with a rebuilt lower bowl and “sky deck” that allows
for crowds ranging from 8,000 up to 17,500. An 8,000-square-foot concession
area on the event floor is designed behind a tinted glass wall, while a 40,000-
square-foot outdoor terrace offers upgraded food and beverage amenities.
Last year’s Video Music Awards show was held at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.
“We are thrilled to welcome the VMAs to the Fabulous Forum for the
first time,” said Sid Greenfeig, senior vice president of West Coast business
operations for the Forum. “The VMAs are one of the year’s biggest celebrations
of music and entertainment.”
