LOS ANGELES (CNS) – NASCAR driver
joined today with Los
Angeles officials, who declared it “Speedway Day L.A.” to drum up publicity
for a racing event to be held later this month in the Inland Empire.
Southern California’s Auto Club 400 NASCAR Race Weekend is set for March
21-23 in Fontana.
Gordon, who is ranked No. 3 in the current NASCAR season, said at a news
conference this afternoon in Los Angeles that there are more racing fans in
the Southland than most would believe.
“I think we prove every time we come out here just how avid and loyal
California fans are,” Gordon said.
He said he appreciates the Southern California car culture.
“Cars mean so much to people out here and it shows,” Gordon said.
“There is no other place to me in the world that you drive around and see cars
taken care of the way they are taken care of.”
The Blue Angels, the U.S. Navy’s flight demonstration squad, will kick
off the festivities on the final day of the race weekend with a flyover. It is
the only sporting event flyover on the Blue Angels’ schedule this year,
