Son of Oscar-Winning Actor Tom Hanks Comes Clean with Cocaine Addiction

The horror stories of growing up in Hollywood are no secret, and the son of a world-famous actor is the latest to fall victim to the hazards of fame.

According to the Daily Mail, Chester “Chet” Hanks, son of Tom Hanks, has revealed he is battling a cocaine addiction.

The 25-year-old socialite and part-time rapper, who sometimes goes by the name “Chet Haze,” took to his Instagram account to reveal that he has been dealing with his addiction since he was 16.

He says he checked into rehab earlier this summer after spiraling out of control.

“I’ve been in rehab. I’ve been trying to get my s**t together and I’m doing pretty damn good,” said Hanks. “A couple months ago I was selling coke [and] doing coke until I couldn’t even snort it up my nose anymore because it was so clogged. I even smoked crack.”

Chet Hanks is looking to avoid becoming yet another famous face to die from a drug overdose. According to CBS News, beloved stars such as Philip Seymour Hoffman and Whitney Houston have passed away in recent years to due to drug-related causes.

Hanks mentions growing up in the public eye as the son of a famous father as a major factor in his addiction. His Instagram revelations come on the heels of a drug-fueled outburst in which he destroyed a four-star hotel room at Gatwick Airport, just outside of London.

Sussex Police said the following day that there were “loud smashing and crashing” noises reported to have come from Hanks’s room throughout the previous night.

Cocaine is a powerful stimulant, the effects of which last anywhere from 15 minutes to an hour. Apparently, that was all Hanks needed to completely destroy his hotel room.

After being summoned by the hotel the next morning, police said that “a guest has caused an estimated £1,200 ($1,800) of damage to a hotel room.”

On top of the hotel incident, the part-time rapper has been under fire for using the N-word in a series of social media posts, which he defended as “free speech.”

He says that his father and mother, actress Rita Wilson, have not spoken to him about the controversy, but have asked him to stay off of social media.

Chet Hanks heeded his parents advice for a short period of time and his return to Instagram ended an almost two-month hiatus from social media. Here’s to hoping he stays on the right path.
