LOS ANGELES — Actors Galen Gering (“Days of Our Lives”), Jennifer Hamilton (“Little Miss Sunshine”) and Los Angeles Lakers play-by-play announcer Bill MacDonald were among those who joined choreographer/actress and entrepreneur Christy Curtis Buss celebrate the 20th anniversary of her iconic dance studio, Studio Art of Dance.
Buss, who is the daughter-in-law of late Los Angeles Lakers owner Jerry Buss, marked the anniversary with a VIP gathering at Staples Center’s Chairman’s Room Oct. 11, with food, drinks and music, capped by a game between the Lakers and Maccabi Haifa of the Israeli Basketball Premier League.
“It was amazing to celebrate the 20th year of the Studio Art of Dance and without the support of friends, family, colleagues and supporters, this celebration would not have been possible,” Buss said. “It was 25 years ago that I decided to embark on a mission to create a facility that would allow me to share my passion for dance with children, their families and those who love dance.”
Buss has grown a small dance school into one of the largest private dance facilities in the country, with an enrollment of more than 400 students per year. The studio has helped teach students about dance, poise, perseverance, as well as self-esteem and confidence.
“The kids we have learn so much by the time they leave that it’s not just about dancing and learning the necessary moves to take their talent to the next level,” Buss said. “It’s also about learning what it takes to succeed in their studies, career and at life. We really stress the positive values that we all as human beings need to be live a good life.”
The choreographer for “Days of Our Lives” for more than 20 years, Buss joined with cast members and a number of friends, family and colleagues for the VIP celebration. Among those attending were champion figure skater Luis Hernandez, award-winning choreographers Chucky Kaplow (“High School Musical”) and Marguerite Derricks (“Showgirls”), as well as among others.
The Studio Art of Dance is known for its children’s program based on the award-winning “Miss Christy’s Dancing” Video-DVD series. The studio’s awards include: The Parents Choice Seal and the Oppenheim Toy Awards in Gold and Platinum. The studio is also home of the Christy Curtis Dance Company.
