The Los Angeles City Council has approved a nearly 6-million dollar
settlement to resolve lawsuits filed by L-A-P-D officers who said they were
pushed to meet quotas for issuing traffic tickets. The officers contended they
were denied overtime and were given bad performance reviews because they did
not implement traffic ticket quotas. Their attorney said the officers were
ordered to issue 18 tickets per shift. L-A-P-D officials denied that the
department uses a quota system.
