WeHo officials introduce curb drop-off zones

WEST HOLLYWOOD — City officials unveiled new nighttime curb zones in ceremonies March 15 in front of the Abbey on Robertson Boulevard.

The city has launched The Drop, a program that establishes designated areas for pick-ups and drop-offs, which provide added convenience for people who use ride share services such as Uber and Lyft.

It is the first-of-its-kind program in the region. Cities such as San Francisco and Washington, D.C. have similar ride-share curb zone programs.

“The Drop makes so much sense,” City Councilwoman Lindsey P. Horvath said. “We want to make it as easy as possible for people to enjoy everything the city of West Hollywood has to offer. With the rapid increase in the use of ride-share services, we’re proud to be among the first cities in the nation exploring innovative ways to provide added convenience that helps mobility and ultimately gets people to where they want to go.”

The Drop features 12 different curb zones located throughout the city in areas that experience a high volume of ride-share at night. Additional locations will be added to the program as usage is assessed.

Curb zones marked The Drop are free, convenient areas for people to be picked up or dropped off by ride share drivers between 6 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Drivers are not permitted to park or stage in The Drop curb zones. The Drop is part of a larger effort to address issues such as congested bike and traffic lanes and double-parking, especially in areas with popular nightlife and dining scenes.

The 12 Drop curb zone locations include: 1000 N. Formosa Ave., 627 N. La Peer Drive,1105 N. Laurel Ave., 8684 Melrose Ave., 8720 Melrose Ave., 8727 Melrose Ave., 621 N. Robertson Blvd., 693 N. Robertson Blvd., 694 N. Robertson Blvd., 7141 Santa Monica Blvd., 8585 Santa Monica Blvd. and 9039 Sunset Blvd.
