WEST HOLLYWOOD — The city will bring in the new year an alcohol- and drug-free experience called West Hollywood: #Boom! The event is free and will take place at West Hollywood Park Auditorium Dec. 31 from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. Approximately 400 people are expected to attend.
Renowned spin master DJ Alexander will pump up the volume to get people moving on the dance floor. A variety of other entertainment activities also are planned. Things will heat up early with a drag show as Miss #Boom! 2014 will be crowned and at midnight there will be a toast to ring in the new year.
Event organizers are encouraging people to arrive early. Space is limited, so reservations are encouraged. Free validated parking will be provided, subject to capacity and space limitations, at West Hollywood Library’s five-story public parking structure at 625 N. San Vicente Blvd. Additional pay parking will be available at the Pacific Design Center, 8687 Melrose Ave.
The city also will offer a free New Year’s Eve shuttle service along Santa Monica Boulevard between Robertson Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue from 9 p.m. until 2 a.m. Shuttles will operate approximately every 15 minutes. The route will be identical to the route for the city’s popular free weekend shuttle, the PickUp.
Shuttle stops also connect to six Metropolitan Transportation Authority bus lines: 105, 705, 4, 704, 217 and 218. Stops also connect to two public pay parking lots: Hancock Parking Structure at 901 Hancock Ave.; and Kings Road Municipal Parking Structure at 8383 Santa Monica Blvd.
#Boom! is sponsored by the city, the Institute for Public Strategies, the L.A. Gay & Lesbian Center, and The Tweakers Project. The event is endorsed by the City of West Hollywood’s Disabilities Advisory Board, Transgender Advisory Board, and Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board; and by AIDS Project Los Angeles, Being Alive, and The Wall Las Memorias Project.
