Although he’s limited his public appearances over the past year following a horrific car accident, actor Tracy Morgan was spotted in New York behind the wheel of a brand new Lamborghini over the weekend.
Steve Lacy, an anchor for Fox 5 News in New York, spotted Morgan while out on Sunday and uploaded his photo to Facebook. The star noticed the camera and flashed Lacy a peace sign.
“Does it get more On Brand than this?!” Lacy captioned the photo. “I spotted Tracy Morgan driving a Lamborghini this weekend in Manhattan. I spoke with him briefly. He said he was feeling well and when I said I loved the car he said ‘thanks’ and that he was being careful behind the wheel. As a huge Tracy Morgan fan it was so great to see him back out in public and feeling better. Much love Tracy!”
So how was Morgan doing? According to Lacy, he may be on his way back to his old self.
“He looked and sounded EXACTLY like the Tracy Morgan we all know and love,” Lacy said in an e-mail to The New York Post.
Last June, Morgan was involved in a deadly car accident on the New Jersey Turnpike when a Walmart truck hit the limo carrying him and other passengers. His friend and fellow comedian James McNair died in the crash, while Morgan suffered from a traumatic brain injury that left him in a coma for several days.
More than 4,000 annual deaths in the United States result from collisions with trucks and semi trucks. Like Morgan’s case and that of McNair’s family, these incidents often require the best personal injury lawyers to seek fair settlements.
But the photos taken over the weekend, showing Morgan in a car that likely cost around $440,000, imply that the actor, who has been reclusive, is making good progress.
This June, Morgan made a public appearance on NBC’s “Today” show and explained that he was still recovering. He’s taking his time before getting back into comedy, he said to Matt Lauer.
“I love comedy and I can’t wait to get back to her,” he said in the interview, “but right now my goal is just to heal and get better because I’m not 100% yet.”
